Leblon neighbourhood Rio de Janeiro: Leblon is a well known residence area in Rio de Janeiro. The neighbourhood still maintains it's quiet and tranquil atmosphere on the streets and at the beach.
Lower Leblon Area (Baixo Leblon) is more animated, epecially at nights, near Rua (Street) Dias Ferreira. Restaurantes, bars and apart-hoteles are all along this area.
Upper Leblon Area (Alto Leblon) is almost strictly residential. This hilly area on the West side of Leblon is a favorite spot for Rio's rich and famous. There are many houses, mansions and posh apartments. Some streets are still cobblestone.
Leblon Beach Rio de Janeiro (Praia do Leblon): Is right beside Ipanema, in the same coastline, and is one of the most tranquil beaches in the south area (zona sul) of Rio de Janeiro. In comparisson to Copacabana or Ipanema, we can say its a family beach.
Leblon beach and neighbourhood, Rio de Janeiro, starsts right after the "Jardim de Alá Channel". This small channell unites the "Rodrigo Freitas Lagoon" to the Atlantic Ocean, thus separating Leblon from Ipanema.
So Leblon, Rio de Janeiro, is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the front, the Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon on the back, Ipanema on one side and the Morro dos Irmaos (twin brothers hill or peak) on the other side at the end of Leblon Beach.
The name Leblon arises from the fact that this area was once owned by Frenchmen "Charles Le Blond", owner of the fishing company Aliança. Afterwards he sold it to José de Seixas Magalhães, a Portuguese buisnessman.
There is a sight seeing spot at the end of the beach (on the opposite side of Ipanema where Avenida Niemeyer starts) called "Mirante do Leblon". It's up on a small monticle, and it's a great place to take pictures and get a look at the hole coastline, while drinking coconut water.
Putting an end to the Leblon beach coastline (always on the opposite side of Ipanema), we have the "Morro Dois Irmãos", one of the many charming and caracteristic mountains of Río de Janeiro. "Irmãos" stands for "brothers" in portuguese, and gets that name due to the to very similar twin peaks of this "morro", hill. You could visit this mount and take panoramic pictures of the city.
