Sao Conrado is a neighbourhood and a beach in the Southern Area of Rio de Janeiro. It's considered to be a high class residence area.
At this area are located exclusive and luxurios Hotels and Condominiums.
Sao Conrado beach, Rio de Janeiro, neighbours: Gavea, Alto da Boa Vista, Vidigal, Rocinha, Barra de Tijuca, Itanhanga e Joá. Also it's very close from Ipanema and Leblon.
From Ipanema and Leblon you reach Sao Conrado through the Morro Dois Irmaos tunnel or the Niemeyer Avenue.

At Sao Conrado Rio de Janeiro, you will find two important rock formations:
Right in between the neighbourhoods of Sao Conrado and Barra da Tijuca, and being part of an area denominated as "Mata Atlántica", we find a mountain called "Pedra Bonita", with an altitude of 696 meters.
It's considered to be one of the most espectacular, and easy to acces viewpoints, of the city of Rio de Janeiro.
It's also a well known spot for mountain climbing, rock climbing, trekking and hiking.
Pedra Bonita, Bonita Stone or Bonita Rock, is known to be the best spot to practice hanggliding in Rio de Janeiro: you can sign up for dual flight with an experienced professional, and enjoy the view which is simply fantastic.
Coming right out of the Atlantic Ocean, also between the neighbourhoods of Sao Conrado and Barra da Tijuca we find an 842 meter rock called "Pedra da Gavea", (Gavea rock). It earned it's name for the resemblance of the rock to a crow's nest on a ship
Pedra da Gavea Stone is very famous due to the human like features the rock presents at it's top, and also due to some geroglifics and inscriptions found at the area. All of this has suscitated for many yeares a lot of mystery and wild interpretations.
The three most common theories intending to explain the sculpted face of a stone giant at the top of the rock are:
1) The rock is the Fenitian esphynx where King Badezir (Tyro, 856 b.c), was buried. The human like features that the rock presents would be his resemblance.
2) The second theory presented states that Gavea Stone, Sao Conrado, is a pathway, or entering door, to the subterranean world of Agartha, which has Shambala as it's capital.
3) The third interpretation points out that the Gavea rock at the Sao Conrado area was sculpted by the technology of the descendants of the habitants of Atlantis (the lost continent).
